DESCRIPTION:
There are several incredible ice climbing locations in central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Due to the unpredicatable nature of weather here in New England the actual destination for this course will be decided the day of the trip.
Each one of these wonderful local areas offers fantastic top-rope ice climbing opportunities perfect for people just getting started. The climbs are approximately 40 feet or longer and range in difficulty from beginner to intermediate level.
COURSE SYLLABUS:
This course is designed to be extremely safe, fun and informative. We will be covering the basics of how to ice climb safely, including appropriate climbing commands, equipment use, proper belay and climbing techniques. Everyone will have ample opportunity to climb and belay on ice of varying degrees of difficulty. We will also briefly go over the NEI rating system and help you to understand the ice climbers lingo.
IMPORTANT COURSE PREPARATIONS:
Everyone is required to come prepared with appropriate extreme winter weather clothing - this will be crucial in order to enjoy the course and keep warm. It will also be your responsibility to have plenty of water, juice or fluids in order to stay well hydrated. It is highly recommended that all participants come prepared with lunch or snacks to keep your energy level at a maximum. A list of what you will need in order to be prepared will be sent to all participants well in advance of the trip date.
