DESCRIPTION:
Located in Leominster State Forest, Crow Ledge is easily the best traditional, climbing destination in north central Massachusetts. Over 100 feet tall at it's highest point, Crow Hill, as it is referred to by local climbers, overlooks several beautiful ponds. This is a perfect local destination to learn about the skills involved in top-rope rock climbing.
COURSE SYLLABUS:
This course is designed to be safe, fun and informative. We will climb on the section of cliff known as the End Crags. These shorter cliffs, ranging from 35 - 45 feet high, offer spectacular routes for people new to climbing. With classic routes rated 5.3 to 5.6 this is a perfect place to learn about all the basics techniques for top-rope climbing. We will cover the basics of how to rock climb, including safety concerns, appropriate climbing commands, equipment use, proper belay and climbing techniques. Everyone will have ample opportunity to climb and belay on routes of varying degrees of difficulty. We will also briefly go over the Yosemite Decimal System used for rating different rock climbs.
IMPORTANT COURSE PREPARATIONS:
Everyone is required to come prepared with weather appropriate clothing - this will be crucial in order to enjoy the course and keep warm. It will also be your responsibility to have plenty of water, juice or fluids in order to stay well hydrated. It is highly recommended that all participants come prepared with lunch or snacks to keep your energy level at a maximum. A list of what you will need in order to be prepared will be sent to all participants well in advance of the trip date.
