DESCRIPTION:
Located in Leominster State Forest, Crow Ledge is easily the best traditional, climbing destination in north central Massachusetts. Crow Hill, as it is referred to by local climbers, is over 100 feet tall it's highest point. Crow Hill also overlooks several beautiful ponds, which makes it a popular destination for hikers. This is a perfect local destination to learn about the more advanced skills and techniques involved in intermediate top-rope rock climbing.
COURSE SYLLABUS:
This course is designed to be safe, fun and informative. We will climb on the sections of cliff known as the Main Face. the Buttress and the Green Corner. These cliffs, ranging from 70 - 100 feet high, offer spectacular routes for people who are climbing on an intermediate level. With classic routes rated 5.6+ to 5.9 this is a perfect place to learn about the more advanced climbing techniques required for intermediate top-rope climbing. We will cover intermediate climbing techniques such as conserving energy, mental attitude, stemming, smearing, heal hooking, hand jamming, crimping and finger stacking. Everyone will have ample opportunity to climb and belay on routes of varying degrees of difficulty.
IMPORTANT COURSE PREPARATIONS:
Everyone is required to come prepared with weather appropriate clothing - this will be crucial in order to enjoy the course and keep warm. It will also be your responsibility to have plenty of water, juice or fluids in order to stay well hydrated. It is highly recommended that all participants come prepared with lunch or snacks to keep your energy level at a maximum. A list of what you will need in order to be prepared will be sent to all participants well in advance of the trip date.
