DESCRIPTION:
This extended adventure will take place in one our countries most beautiful natural landscapes, Yosemite National Park in California. It is hard to describe with words the wonder and magnificence of Yosemite. With its towering walls of granite, cascading waterfalls, clear running rivers, bountiful wildlife and giant sequoias, this sacred land will certainly ignite your inspiration and capture your sense of adventure. I can think of no better place to refine your skills in the outdoors, whether hiking, exploring, mountaineering or rock climbing.
COURSE SYLLABUS:
This course is designed to be exciting, fun and informative. Throughout the trip we will be covering many useful and important skills: hiking and exploring unfamiliar terrain, mountaineering, top-rope and multi-pitch rock climbing techniques.
You will become more comfortable as a climber, whether top-rope climbing or following a lead climber up a multi-pitch route. This will include advanced rock climbing techniques for intermediate face and crack climbing, belaying a lead climber, removing protection and maximizing safety and efficiency when climbing with larger groups. We will spend approximately 2 days climbing together and 1 doing a big multi-pitch climb as parties of 3. Multi-pitch climbing in groups of 3 will allow us to climb some amazing routes in the Valley.
We will also spend 3 days together mountaineering in Tuolumne. We will attempt to summit, weather permitting, the stunning Cathedral Peak in the Cathedral Range of the High Sierras.
Plus we will spend at least 2 days hiking and exploring some of the most breathtaking landscapes you will ever visit. One day we will hike through one of the incredible sequoia groves in the park and another day we will hike around some of the most scenic parts of Glacier Point
Of course one must spend some time recuperating from all the serious physical activity so we will have at least 2 days that will be open for whatever people in the group would like to do.
Since most of our plans depend upon the weather cooperating we will be some what flexible with our schedule in order to get the most out of the 12 days we will be in California.
IMPORTANT COURSE PREPARATIONS:
Everyone is required to come prepared with weather appropriate clothing - this will be crucial in order to enjoy the course and keep warm. It will also be your responsibility to bring a sleeping pad and sleeping bag. We will be purchasing our food in Yosemite so it will be important to bring an ample amount of extra money for this reason. A list of what you will need in order to be prepared will be sent to all participants well in advance of the trip date.
